Post office closing

THE post office in Quedgeley is set to close today.

The post office, which was in Martin’s newsagents in Severnvale Shopping Centre, will sell its last stamp.

But its loss to Quedgeley is expected to be short-term.

Earlier, it was announced that after a campaign to save Quedgeley’s post office, an new application was expected to be submitted to Post Office Ltd from prospective owner Howard Greenman.

Mr Greenman said he was “actively progressing” the application for another unit in the Severnvale Shopping Centre.

“I’m pretty positive about the whole thing, but it’s not cut and dried yet.

“These things don’t happen overnight,” he said.

Councillor Jackie Hall, who represents the Quedgeley ward, said she could not see the new post office opening until the end of August.
