A group of 13 year old students from Severn Vale who are known as Community Champions have been nominated for a top award after volunteering in their local area for the past two years. The sort of jobs that they have taken on includes cutting back hedges to make pavements in Quedgeley clearer, litter picking and highlighting areas of dog fouling.

They have also been involved in a very important scheme with the University of Gloucestershire and the police to create a short film about anti-social behaviour. They also filmed older Quedgeley residents and made a DVD to help celebrate the schools 50th Birthday. They have been nominated in the Community Project Hero Category of the Heart of Gloucestershire Community awards.

I am sure that we in Quedgeley are all pleased by this nomination and wish them every success in this award program. The students of Severn Vale School who form the Community Champions group take the role seriously and give regular briefings of their work at the multi-interest group Community Voice meetings. It is always a delight to see them there and hear their views about what should be done to improve things in the locality. This morning they will be carrying out one of their regular walkabouts - so I look forward to hearing the outcome. Well done on the nomination and good luck!
