Dr Avatar Duggal dies aged 83

Retired doctor Avatar Duggal has died at the age of 83.

Dr Duggal, who arrived in Gloucester in 1969, worked as a GP in Quedgeley while his wife Shakantula was a medical officer.
He opened a surgery in Ryecroft Street, Gloucester, serving the ethnic community after finding it difficult to get planning permission to open a surgery in Quedgeley.
After his retirement, in 2007, Dr Duggal was awarded the Glory of India award and certificate of excellence for his work to nurture the relationship between India and the UK.

Dr Duggal died on Boxing Day following a brief illness and leaves behind a wife, three children and five grandchildren.

Dr Duggal was our family doctor for many years - his surgey was behind the chippy in the single storey building. He was an exceddingly nice man, my condolences to his family
