Campaigners against plans to build an incinerator near Quedgeley took part in a cycle ride as the county celebrated Guy Fawkes weekend.
Cyclists began their rally at Ashchurch in Tewkesbury, visiting 10 of the 13 sites allocated as possible waste disposal sites within Gloucestershire County Council’s consultation.
The event ended at Javelin Park in Haresfield, near Quedgeley, where a bonfire had been built, complete with Guy.
But instead of seeing the pile go up in flames, campaigners dismantled it and sorted the rubbish into recycling containers, sending the message “Recycle, don’t burn.”
Event organiser David Purchase said: "We want to send a strong message to the leaders of the county council, during their waste consultation, that waste doesn't need to be burnt, it can be recycled."
