As a responsible dog owner I am writing to complain about the amount of dog walkers that allow their dogs to run around off the lead and completely out of control. The Dimore II field is a particularly bad area for unruly dogs. Having spoken to some fellow dog walkers I have found that a lot of people completely avoid the area. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was little obedient dogs but its not, it is big dangerous dogs such as staffies that are running wild while the owners have no control. Has any one else had problems? Have also heard of a lot of dog's that have been attacked by other dogs and the majority of the time this goes unreported to the police. People need to report these attacks so that something can get done about this problem.

We have a Jack Russell which is obviously a very small dog and my Mum has come back quite a few times from walking her and said that she has had close calls with other dogs trying to attack her. She suffered one incident at the very field that you mention here with a Staffordshire Bull Terrier which wasn’t on its lead and was running around out of control. It noticed my Jack Russell and started chasing after her, my dog jumped into my mums arms, fortunately she is small enough for my mum to carry, the other dog then proceeded to jump all over my mum trying to get to my dog for a good couple of minutes before the owner caught up. No one should feel scared or nervous about walking in any area for fear of being attacked by a dog. Something needs to be done.

I believe that dogs should be muzzled or kept on a lead at all times no exceptions

All, FYI your local PCSO's now have the power to issue tickets to dog owners who are not following the rules surrounding dog fouling, lead etc. Please report these issues to us so we are aware. Regards

Thanks for the information Lucy. That is good to know, I didn’t realise that PCSO's had that power. What is the best way to report a dog walking issue? As obviously it is not a 999 call but it does require a relatively quick response as otherwise the person committing the offence will have simply walked away. Is there a phone number for less serious offences that goes straight through to Quedgeley Police Station?
