Quedgeley Police are advising citizens in the area to check the bank notes that they receive are genuine.

There has been a large increase in the amount of counterfeit notes being passed around in Quedgeley.

Forged £20 notes are the most common.

They have also been circulating in Gloucester City Centre.

Officers are asking suspicious people to get the details of the passer of the note and inform the police.

If you think you offered a counterfeit note then ring the non-emergency police line on 101.

I used to work in a Bank and you are dead right LittleMiss12 if you hand a forged note over to the Bank they will confiscate it and you won't be given any compensation for the money. So best to check all of your notes before you leave any shop, stall etc just to make sure because once you have a forged note there is nothing you can do about it. The main way of telling if a note is forged or not is the feel of the paper that it's printed on. Forged notes will always feel different to a genuine note. So if you get given a note that doesn't quite feel right then don't take it and give the police the details.

Forged notes are a real pain if you end up with one as there is nothing you can do with them. If you try and spend it in a shop etc they will spot it straight away as they have had a lot more experience with notes and if you take it to the bank they confiscate the note with no compensation. So make sure you really do check your notes before you walk away and if you think there is a problem with the note then do not take it.
