Students in Quedgeley have decided to brighten up a dingy and unkempt underpass that runs from Field Court Drive to Overbrook Road.

Quedgeley Underpass now with Bright artwork
The underpass is known for its crude, ugly graffiti and anti-social behaviour as it is very dark and away from the main road.
Lighting for the underpass has been requested many times to the Council but as yet there hasn't been any extra lighting added.
Over the course of a week 18 students ranging from 11 to 14 years old from Severn Vale transformed the underpass with tasteful, bright graffiti including silhouettes of The Queen, Jimi Hendrix and the Shark from Jaws.
The school has its own club called the Street Art Club; the aim of the group is to introduce students to Public Art.
The students are hoping that the art work will make a difference to the underpass, making people feel safer walking through, make people less likely to commit crimes or graffiti over their art.
The idea is that kids will have a sense of ownership of the underpass and the locals will feel less embarrassed by the area and therefore more likely to look after it and report crimes and anti-social behaviour that happens there.

Having looked at the pictures can you tell me how this differs from ugly graffiti? To be honest the art is rubbish and apart from maybe having no swear words does not enhance the underpass at all. Is there any chance the Street Art Club can go minimalist and paint it white.
