Have you noticed the changes to the recycling point at Tesco? Many residents will be surprised to learn that the City Council no longer manages this facility following a Tesco corporate decision to get into the recycling business. Tesco is doing this through its partner DS Smith Recycling who now services the skips at the Tesco site. Of course, every change has its complications and many residents have raised concerns about the tidiness of the recycling point now that the City Council has moved out. Being private land the responsibility sits with the store but we have taken your concerns up with Tesco and I am pleased that the company is taking the right steps to keep the area clean. Fly tipping seems to be the main problem and if Tesco plans for dealing with this prove effective then we can be sure the perpetrators will be caught!

We are very lucky in Quedgeley to have such a responsive Community policing team. Whether it is through interaction with local policing panels, readouts from formal public consultation or simply by asking around, our officers are always willing to listen and adapt to the needs of our community. Good examples are the recent decision to give Kingsway extra police officers/PCSOs and plans to tackle evening economy problems that are causing concern among Quedgeley residents. Keep it up!

A few weeks ago, I attended the Spring Centre's Open Day along with the Mayor and other Quedgeley Councillors. Jayne and Steve with their team of dedicated helpers do a terrific job providing a much needed haven for children and young adults with special needs All of this comes at a cost and this wonderful facility needs money to keep going. If any Quedgeley business is able to help, I am sure that Jayne would love to hear from you. Give her a call on 725935 or by e-mail at  www.springcentre.org

As a local councillor, I am always pleased to get an opportunity to attend community group meetings or events. Not only does this give me a chance to interact with local people, it also ensures that I 'feel the pulse' of the community in its various settings. A regular on my agenda is the Kingsway Residents' Association that in my view is going from strength to strength and makes a significant difference to the wellbeing of this emerging community. The last public meeting was no exception and included an interesting proposition to form a new civil parish in Kingsway as an outcome to outlined Country electoral boundary changes.  How this is progressed remains to be seen and I offer no opinion other than say that I will watch with interest. What is your view?
