Kingsway road finally opens after three year wait

AFTER three years a Kingsway link road has finally opened.
-
on the road to success: Councillor Barry Kirby and his daughter Eloisa at the newly opened road.
The link between Naas Lane and Woodvale will help to cut journeys for estate residents.
Issues concerning adoption of the drainage system and balancing ponds which drain the area around the road led to delays in the road being opened.
It left frustrated residents unable to access Kingsway from the Naas Lane roundabout – by car or by foot.
Mums and dads taking their children to BarBar Nursery, in Naas Lane, had to trek around the block to make their daily journey.
Nursery manager Bev Orgee said: "It's great that the road has been opened.
"Many of our parents had to go all the way round.
"My only concern is the speed of the cars that are travelling down the road.
"It's a straight road and people tend to put their foot down.
"Also parents are not used to looking left when they come out of our site because there was never anything coming."
Quedgeley parish councillors have called for temporary signs to be put up at the entrance to Kingsway to warn drivers that the road has opened.
They fear there could be a crash at the roundabout because drivers have become accustomed to not looking to the right.
Councillor Barry Kirby, who lives on the estate, said: "It may not seem much, a 500m stretch of road, but in terms of seeing progression, this has been a sore point now for around three years.
"It will do a lot to cut fuel consumption, make access to each side of the estate easier and also allow better access to the Quedgeley amenities, such as the park and ride."
But he warned: "In the short-term people must be on their guard and not get taken unawares at the new road layout."

Don't tell me there's a 20mph limit on that road in the photo?
Do the 'powers that be' have no idea what type of road is safest with what speed limit.
Glad the road is open at last

ReportGlosCityRes... totally hear, hear. Barry's a rare commodity - he lives in the heart of his parish, has young children, and really truly cares about the issues affecting his neighbourhood. He's involved in his community 24/7 and if he can sort a problem in Kingsway, he will.

ReportIt's great that this road is now open for residents to use, I am suprised speed cameras have not yet been errected, but I do think a couple if well placed speed bumps should have been added though when they resurfaced the road prior to opening, not many drivers are sticking to the 20mph speed limit, I just hope the road won't be closed when they start the ASDA construction!
