Christmas is a favourite time of year for thieves not only in Quedgeley but all over the UK.

Dark evenings, expensive presents in homes and families being out at parties and other Christmas events mean burglaries in the festive season are very high.

In August there were 10 burglaries in Quedgeley and in September there were 19 burglaries so already Quedgeley is an area that suffers with home break ins and with this due to rise over Christmas this is the time to start thinking about your home security.

Using a bit of common sense around this time of year could stop you becoming the victim of a terrible crime.

When you go out for the evening leave a light on in the front room and the television so that it looks like someone is home this should help deter thieves as they prefer dark, quiet homes that are obviously empty.

Don't display presents in your front room or where you can see them through a window.

Once a thief has seen a pile of presents they know that there is something in the house worth breaking in for.

If you are going away over the Christmas period speak to your neighbours and make them aware that you are going away and ask if they could keep an eye on your house or even go in and open your curtains in the day and close them again at night as this is another give away that no one is home.

If you want to step up your security further you could get an alarm fitted. Home Alarms Glos Ltd is a local alarm fitting company, call them for advice on which alarm would suit your home best.

Christmas is a time for everyone to enjoy themselves, spend time with family and share gifts however a few individuals use the season for their personal gain by doing a few simple things you can prevent these thieves from ruining your Christmas.

Having your house broken into at any time would be horrible but I can imagine that having Christmas presents that you have chosen, wrapped and worked really hard all year for would be particularly horrible. With so many people out at parties and visiting family at this time of year as well its the perfect opportunity for thieves so please every one be careful!!

Some great advice here. I know a few people that have been broken into and had Christmas presents stolen. Which is just heart breaking. Please everyone be cautious and keep an eye out for your neighbours houses as well.
