Dog walkers have been taking extra leads and bacon rashers out with them in a bid to lure missing pooch Rolo home.

The Jack Russell cross went missing from Westend Parade in Gloucester three weeks ago, but his owners have been buoyed by the efforts – and cash – of strangers wanting to help.

Charlotte Case, 20, who owns Rolo with her mum and brother, said: "It's been amazing. Complete strangers have been giving us money to increase the reward for his return.

"We've had a couple of possible sightings in Twigworth and Staverton, but by the time we've gone up there, there's been no sign of him. We are just hoping he comes home.

"My mum's really down about it, because when me and my brother are out, Rolo is her company."

As well as taking tasty treats with them, dog walkers responding to Facebook and poster appeals about Rolo have adopted some more primal methods.

"We've had people taking out their dogs when they know they are on heat," said Charlotte, a journalism student at the University of Gloucestershire.

"They are trying everything to lure him out – and it's not easy walking a dog when it's on heat."

She said the family is holding out hope he is surviving somewhere, but pleaded with people to keep an eye out for him.

He has been registered on the website,, which co-ordinates sightings and searches for missing pets.

The family is offering £200 for his safe return and well-wishers have donated their own contributions, taking the fund to about £300.

Rolo is tan, with big ears and a white underbelly. He was wearing a red collar. Call 07795 448444 if you see him.
