2012 guide to fireworks displays and bonfire events in Gloucestershire

The county's skies will be ablaze with dazzling colours again as a host of public fireworks and bonfire displays explode into life, starting later this month.

Quedgeley People has compiled a comprehensive guide to the public fireworks displays happening in the Gloucester area and Five Valleys this Bonfire Night season.

We aim to keep this updated, as information on the various displays becomes available. So watch this space... and feel free to send details of any fireworks and bonfire events happening in your area for inclusion in the guide.

Upton St Leonards Annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display

Venue: Upton St Leonards Village Hall, Bondend Road

Date: Monday, November 5

Time: Gates open 5.30pm, bonfire 6.30pm

Tickets: Adults £3, children £1.50

Food and drinks available. Various games and tombola. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the village hall.

Quedgeley Fireworks

Venue: Dimore II Playing Field, School Lane

Date: Saturday, November 10

Time: Gates open 6pm, fireworks start at 7pm

Gloucester Round Table - Quays Firework Festival 2012 - The BiG Bang

Venue: Gloucester Docks, Victoria Basin

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open at 6pm

Tickets: Tickets cost £5, £3 for children or £13 for a family of four in advance; and £6, £4 for children or £16 for a family of four on the night.

Dubbed one of the UK's top fireworks displays, the BiG Bang will light up the city's skies for one night only.

Gloucester Docks, in association with Gloucester Round Table and Gloucester Quays, will be hosting the event in Victoria Basin.

There will be a fun fair, spectacular fireworks display and a roadshow playing music. Official media partner, Heart FM, will be on site, with Warren Moore and the Heart Angels. Food and refreshments will be available near to the site.

Gates open at 6pm, with all monies raised on the night donated to Gloucestershire-based charities. Sideline attractions include a music roadshow and plenty of food and drink.

Cheltenham Round Table Fireworks display at the Racecourse

Venue: Cheltenham Racecourse, Prestbury

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: From 5pm

Tickets/price: £6 adults, £4 children.

One of the South West's biggest and best fireworks displays, thousands of people are expected to flock to Cheltenham Racecourse again this year to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night.

As well as the spectacular pyrotechnics there is also a fairground, live stage show and plenty of places to pick up refreshments.

FERN Bonfire and Firework Display at Speech House


Venue: Speech House field, Coleford

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open 5pm, bonfire 6pm, fireworks 7.30pm

Tickets/price: £5, under 11s free

Located in the heart of the Forest of Dean the Speech House field offers one of the most idyllic places to watch a firework display in the county.

The gates open at 5pm and from 6pm the giant bonfire will be lit. Fireworks start at 7.30pm. There is also a fun fair and refreshment stalls, and to add to the spectacle every child will receive a free glowstick.

Minchinhampton Fireworks Night

Venue: Minchinhampton School Field

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open at 5pm

Barbecue, bar, bonfire and fireworks at 6pm

Tickets: Family ticket £12 (advance purchase only until 5pm, Friday, November 2): Admits up to five people with a maximum of two adults.

Entrance on the gate: Adult £5, child/senior citizen £3 (an adult is age 18 or over). Babies and children under three are free. Children age 14 or under MUST be accompanied by an adult. Entrance tickets on the night can be bought in advance from: M&B Stores, Woefuldane Dairy and Minchinhampton School Office.

There will be a fabulously fiery bonfire, spectacular fireworks, a delicious barbecue, mulled wine and more.

Family Firework Display at Thrupp School

Venue: Thrupp Primary School, Thrupp Lane, Stroud GL5 2EN

Date: Friday, November 2

Time: Gates open at 6pm

Tickets: Adults £5, children £2.50. Family tickets costing £12 are available in advance from the school

A family firework display organised by the Friends of Thrupp School, with the usual fireworks and bonfire, plus licensed bar, barbecue, toffee apples, hot soup and much more.

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Bisley Blue Coat School Bonfire and Fireworks Display

Venue: Bisley Recreation Grounds, Vanderbreen Street

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open at 6pm

Guy competition - entries received by 6pm to 6.30pm

Judging of Guy competition at 6.30pm.

Bonfire lighting at 7pm

Fireworks at 7.30pm

A great family night out. Hot food available: BBQ, soup, chilli. Bar and mulled wine. Glow items on sale.

Car parking available in the school. There is no acess to Vanderbreen Street except for residents and emergency services.

Cirencester Fireworks Display

Venue: Cirencester Primary School, Victoria Road Playing Fields

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open 5pm, bonfire lit at 6pm , fireworks at 7pm

Tickets: In advance - adult £5, child £3 (16 and under), family £12 (2+2), under 5s free.

Available from Tourist Information Centre, Walter Bull, Moore Allen & Innocent, Londis South Cerney and Chesterton Pharmacy.

On the gate - adult £6, child £4 (16 and under) family £15 (2+2), under 5s free

Organised by Cirencester Round Table, the evening will offer children's attractions, food, refreshments and a spectacular fireworks display by Firework Effects (as seen on the BBC's Last Night of the Proms).

Fairford Fireworks in the Park

Venue: Fairford Park (behind the town car park), top of High Street, Fairford

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm, fireworks at 7pm

Tickets: £4 per adult and £3 for OAPs and children aged 4-16 years. Family tickets cost £12 for 2 adults and up to 3 children. Under 4s free. Tickets available from Fairford Primary School and 7a Coffee Shop, or available on the night.

Organised jointly by the PTA, Fairford School and St Mary's Church, this year's display promises to be bigger than ever before with fantastic fireworks, a blazing bonfire, mini fairground rides for the younger children, burgers, hot dogs, soup, mulled wine as well as cold drinks

Quenington Bulldogs Bonfire Night and Fireworks Display

Venue: Godwin's Field, Quenington

Date: Monday, November 5

Time: Gates open 6.30pm, bonfire lit at 6.45pm, fireworks start at 7.15pm

Tickets: Entry is free (voluntary contributions in aid of local causes)

Dursley & District Bonfire and Fireworks

Venue: Dursley Recreation Ground

Time: Gates open 6pm, fireworks from 7pm, bonfire from 8pm

Tickets: TBA. Entry at the gate - no advance tickets

Organised by Dursley & District Round Table.

Wotton Round Table Fireworks Display

Venue: Blue Coat Primary School playing field by kind association with the school and PTA.

Date: Saturday, November 3

Time: Gates open 6.30pm, fireworks at 7.30pm* (* time may vary due to circumstances)

Tickets: Advance - adults £4.50, children £3, family (2 x adults and up to 3 x children) £14.

On gate - adults £5, children £3, no family tickets available.

As well as the display there will be many stalls run by local organisations selling food, drink and other refreshments, plus live entertainment leading up to the display.

Tickets on sale in advance from Bear Street Garage and Robinsons the Florist (High Street).

Parking will be very limited around the area, so please walk to the venue if you can.

Stratton Primary School Fireworks Display

Venue: Stratton CofE Primary School, Thessaly Road, Stratton, Cirencester

Date: Sa****day, November 3

Time: Gates open 5.30pm, fireworks start at 6pm

Organised by the PTA, this is always a lovely event aimed at all the family.

Leonard Stanley C of E (Aided) Primary School Firework Display

Venue: Leonard Stanley C of E (Aided) Primary School

Date: Plan A - Monday, November 5

Plan B - Tuesday, November 6

Time: Gates open at 6pm, fireworks at 6.30pm

Tickets: £2 per person, £7 family ticket (for four people) Glow Items on sale.

Organisers are planning a fireworks night event at Leonard Stanley School. Weather and conditions allowing, it hopes to hold the event on Monday, November 5. If it is rained off, however, it's hoped the display will be able to go ahead the following day.

Refreshments include hotdogs, bugers, chips, tea, coffee and hot chocolate.


Chalford Hill Bonfire Night

Venue: France Lynch Pleasure Grounds, Chalford Hill

Date: Tuesday, November 6

Time: Bonfire lit 6pm, fireworks at 7pm

Tickets: Suggested donation, £6 per family or £2 per person

Bonfire, fireworks and refreshments.

Glowsticks £1

Please do not bring your own fireworks or sparklers.

Stroud's Ebley Fireworks

Venue: Marling School playing field, Downlands, Stroud

Date: Monday, October 22

Time: Gates open at 6pm, fun fair 6pm - 9.30pm, bonfire 7.20pm

Fireworks set off at 8pm (display lasts approx. 25mins)

Tickets: £6 for adults and £3 for children

The annual Ebley Fireworks will be taking place at its usual venue, Marling School playing field at Downfields in Stroud, on Monday, October 22.

The event, which has now been running for more than 50 years, is a joint venture between the Rotary Clubs of Stroud, Nailsworth and Stonehouse and Stroud and Stonehouse Round Table.

Connelly's fairground will be there, as well as a host of vendors selling refreshments and souvenirs.
